Congress will not put up candidate against Sanjay Dutt

New Delhi, The Congress party Saturday said it would not field a candidate against Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt if he contested from Lucknow.

"If Sanjay Dutt contests from Lucknow, we will not put up a candidate against him," Digvijay Singh, Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, told reporters here in response to a question.

Rishi, Russian dancer come together after 'Mera Naam Joker'

Mumbai, Rishi Kapoor played the role of a young Raj Kapoor in "Mera Naam Joker" way back in 1970 and Russian artist Kseniya Ryabinkina was one of the leading ladies in the film. The two are now set to come together after nearly 40 years in a movie titled "Chintu Ji".

A comedy partially based on Rishi's life, "Chintu Ji" is being made by debutant Ranjit Kapoor. And the film's name is derived from Rishi's nickname - Chintu.

Shilpa Shetty buys house in London

Mumbai, Preity Zinta, who co-owns Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab, says the Twenty20 tournament moving to South Africa is like "asking an actor to perform in a theatre where nobody knows him", but the Bollywood star also hopes the shift helps in making the event bigger.

"The option was to either have it outside India or not at all. No one is happy to shift from home ground. That thrill of playing across our own country at domestic tournaments is gone. Going to various cities with the matches is a high," Preity told IANS in an interview.

Aishwarya declines to be immortalised as Barbie

New Delhi, Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai has declined to be immortalised as a Barbie doll, due to her professional commitments.

It was earlier reported that representatives of the 35-year-old actress were in negotiations with Barbie's manufacturer Mattel, who planned to give the iconic doll a Bollywood face. But the deal did not take off.

Akshay's '8X10' release hit by squabble between producers

New Delhi, The release of "8X10 Tasveer", an Akshay Kumar-starrer supernatural thriller, is in trouble over a financial clash between the movie's co-producers, Percept Picture Company and T-Series.

On March 4, 2009, the co-producers signed an agreement according to which T-Series would walk out of the film and take back the money (50 percent of the total agreed cost it had put in the film), if the money was paid by Percept on time through post-dated cheques, said a statement by T-Series.

Working with Akshay in '8x10' was terrific: Nagesh Kukunoor

New Delhi, Nagesh Kukunoor is all praise for Akshay Kumar, who plays the main lead in his first action flick "8x10 Tasveer", describing him as a "no nonsense actor" who would come to the sets on time and do his work without any fuss.

According to Kukunoor, 41, Akshay was an obvious choice for the role of Jai, who has the ability to peek into people's past.

Chennai, Multilingual film actor Kamal Haasan Thursday slammed the critics who say that Oscar winning film "Slumdog Millionaire" showed India in a bad light.

"I am tired of hearing allegations about 'Slumdog Millionaire' showing India in a bad light instead of rejoicing over the achievement of A.R. Rahman and Resul Pookutty," Haasan said at the audio launch Wednesday of "Pasanga" a children's film being by Sasi Kumar.

Actress Asin's missing aide traced in Andhra Pradesh

Chennai, An aide of actress Asin who had been missing for the past 10 days has been traced to Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh. He has reportedly admitted to blackmailing the actress, the police said Thursday.

N. Muthu Kumar, Asin's assistant for the past four years, went missing last week. His mother S. Vadivu told police that he had been kidnapped at the movie star's behest.

Yash Raj Films denies shutting down music label

New Delhi, Entertainment conglomerate Yash Raj Films (YRF) is not shutting down its music label and overseas distribution network.

New Delhi, Even if directing three Bollywood macho men, two sizzling beauties and one Australian pop diva didn't seem a tough bet for debut director Anthony D'Souza, wielding the megaphone for 40 sharks for an underwater action sequence for "Blue" surely gave him jitters.

"The scariest part of 'Blue' was in fact the sharks. Getting them to act in my film was not easy," D'Souza told IANS in an e-mail interview.

"My parents looked after us very well... we had a fairly sheltered life. I mean my parents were really against me getting into films. I come from a film family. Bollywood film festival opens in Poland

Warsaw, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan is already a household name in Poland. Now fans eagerly await another star Aamir Khan's directorial debut "Taare Zameen Par" during a seven-day festival of Hindi films that opened here Monday and will travel to 12 Polish towns.

The festival, Experience the Real Taste of India, is being organised by the Indo-Polish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IPCCI) along with Epelpol Entertainment.
